Clips on BA Seedhouse SL2

I do not like the clips that are on the fly (..) of my Big Agnes Seedhouse SL2 tent (click on thumbnail image). I don't like the push-in approach. And they seem like they'll eventually break too.

Do you know of any alternatives that I can consider that are lightweight? By the way, I'll have to be able to put the replacement clips on without cutting and re-sewing the web straps that the clips are attached to.

Thanks.

Reality,
Is that like a regular mitten hook?

Goodness, I don't think I'd like that either ! Too hard to unclip !

There MAY be a couple possibilities on the Outdoor Wilderness Fabrics plastic hardware page. But it's hard to really tell since you can't enlarge the pics. Scroll down to the bottom when you get there.

.... The "cord clip hook" is the one SD tents uses, I believe.

I don't know if this is really solving the clip issue, but you could replace the clip with a small carabiner. I think it would hold up quite well, and you wouldn't have to sew, just cut off the old clip and slide in the 'biner.

I have a couple of micro biners that look an awful lot like the Ursalite biners from BPL. The two I have came for free with some jackets I bought at EMS...they use them to hold the fact tags on outerwear. I'm sure they're overbuilt for what you want, but they work quite well.

What about a simple aluminum S hook? You could bend one end over the loop you take the plastic from, and you could rubber coat or put a little rubber cap on the end you leave open to prevent punctures.

Not sure if you backpack a lot in the snow, but those little clips and buckles can be a real PITA with gloves or mittens on!

I'll probably just stay with what I have. I don't like them, but they seem to be about the lightest and most appropriate available.

Thanks for the help/suggestions.

If you do change, I would second the S hook. You're talking neglible weight increase. I have some on one of my older tents. Only difference is they are on shock cord.

Actually, you'll be surprised how robust that small plastic hook actually is. But in any case, here's what I would do:

1. Cut off the offending clip
2. Replace with a small piece of velcro at the end of the webbing.
3. Sew a corresponding piece of velcro at the end of other webbing.

Now, when pitching the tent, the two pieces can be easily connected by simple touch -- and easily pulled apart when striking camp.
