Are there limits to bringing cigarettes to Japan? Or can i just bring in an entire carton?

I don't smoke, but I checked into it and it seems that you can bring up to 400 cigarettes.

I would call the customs office to be certain.

If you haven't already, you might want to check prices in Japan first. I noticed when I traveled overseas once that the US seems to have much higher alcohol and tobacco prices than other countries. You might find yourself wondering how many you can bring back with you...

And I don't know if they sell cigarettes in airports or not, but we brought back a ~$70(US shelf price) bottle of whiskey for ~$20 from the airport duty free shop. It might be worth looking into that too.
