Day Use Hostels

Hi! When you are quickly moving everyday from one place/city to another, how do you guys manage to take a shower, rest a bit or just leave your bag for a while? Do you pay the whole day/night for a hostel? Are there any hostels for "day use"?

One thing that I thought of before my last bike tour was to leave my bags with the local police station before heading off to explore the city. I only ended up doing it once, it was in the US, of course not all police officers are going to be any better about not going through your things than a thief, and not all of them are gonna wanna store your things for the day, but maybe they could at least recommend somewhere for you to leave the bag. Some larger bus/train stations have pay lockers that you could rent for the day.
