Wolf Pack Sighting in California

I just read an article claiming that there has been a wolf pack discovered in Shasta, California. 2 adults and 5 pups were sighted and photographed. The article further explains that this is the first wolf pack living in California in 90 years.

For wildlife enthusiasts, naturalists and the like, this should be exciting news.

I for one am encouraged to hear that this endangered species is making a comeback.

That's great news! I hope they get established well. It's good to see some species making a comeback.

I often hike in a pocket wilderness in NE Oregon. There is an healthy wolf pack that ranges the area and I have sighted a wolf on two occasions. Very interesting seeing a very large, long legged dog.

I hike with a GSD usually off leash and was concerned about that. We had a pack get our scent very early this summer. They were yipping and barking at us. My dog stayed in real close. I do not think he liked what he was smellin' and I do not think the wolves like our scent either. We left the area and they did not follow.

That kind of encounter adds a great deal to the wilderness experience.
