Freeze dried food in luggage to Europe

Is it acceptable/common to pack freeze dried foods into luggage checked in for flighs to Europe? I have had several items "removed" from my baggage in the past (stove, pocket knives, etc.) so am gun shy to do this.

Check the TSA website to see if it is specifically listed as contraband. I would ask why you are taking freeze dried food to Europe? I have not been east of Scotland, but it would seem there would be food available.
