The tape, shown above, is actually made for such things as wrapping feet, hands, wrists etc. I've primarily used it for training/fighting in the past. I used it (similar) in circumstances involving intense friction.

Fortunately, I don't get blisters very often - partly due to prevention with the aforementioned athletic tape.

I would not intentionally set out to use duct tape or petroleum on my body, when I have opportunity to prepare with other options. I also recommend avoiding the use of duct tape on a "forming" blister.

I've seen Cover-Roll Stretch used with good results. Some use it in conjunction with Leukotape.

Athletic tape and cloth ACE ankle supports are a MAJOR portion of my first aid kit. Those ankle supports along with a little tape are TERRIFIC at preventing blisters and giving extra support.

If I know I'm hiking in wet boots, I slip on the ankle supports and wrap up my feet a little with the tape just to make sure nothing develops. If I were going to use duct tape, I'd have to shave my feet before the trip!
