What type of rig(s)/apparatus(es) (e.g. crane, tripod,...) do you prefer when cooking over a campfire?

In my scout camp days I lashed together a couple of fairly elaborate sapling kitchens as demonstrations. These are pretty cool but are only practical for long-term camps.
Most of the time I use one of two methods. The hunter fire, 2 side logs in a "V" pattern with the fire in the middle has been my choice for years but I also use the rock setup with a stainless steel pot support - a telescopic grate in a "U" shape that rests on two rocks and can be leveled by sliding the support along the rock. |
