Sounds like a good plan to me. I just got a therm a rest toughskin mattress that is a combined closed cell/open cell foam pad that is supposed to be a 4 season mat. Hopefully it can replace my blue foamy and normal therm a rest mat.

I do as James 481, when it's cold and i need the extra insulation as well as the comfort. But mostly it's enough with my 14mm Evazote(195x60cm,700g) even in snow (the comfort comes from snow being somewhat soft even when compressed under me) The above is still the normal in scandinavia during winter - it weighs less, and do not puncture - even though the inflatable is coming up too, and used w/ex a z-rest on top.
